#Synology drive sync vs backup Pc#
One last thing, if I had previously already copied the data from my PC to NAS, are there anyway to skip the syncing/backup process again if I edit the connection in the Drive client on my PC? The reason I'm asking this is because initially I setup a blanket account for everything and had already performed the sync once. Also, anyone know if there are any speed difference between sync task and backup task? That or to be able to manually control the sync rate of sync task instead of being always-active? Basically I'm trying to find a best of both world options, if that's even possible. Is there anyway to get backup task to perform like sync task without following the windows structure as it make things really disorganized to navigate through when accessing the files from my mobile devices.

NAS_name/sync_folder/PC_name/folder1/folder2/folder3/sync_folder What I wish to achieve (which can be done by sync task, short of the schedule controls): For some reason, setting up a backup task will always try to replicated nested folders in the same folder structure as on my PC, which is really annoying me to no end. As I only need to sync the data one-way from PC to NAS like once a day or week, I figured using backup task is better suited as compared to the always-active sync task. My plan is to buy a second drive and I’d choose the DS412+ 4-disk model. So recently I got myself a DS218+ and was setting up backups via the Synology Drive so I can easily access the data on my mobile devices.

The replacement appears to be a minor upgrade to the 1813+ model. I currently use, and love, an 1812+ model. It’s certainly cheaper than the Glacier option previously available for Synology. I also think this could be an alternative cloud backup for a Synology drive, given the recent Google Drive price drop. Instead, I have the Synology drive take care of the syncing and mount it on my Mac as a network volume. This means that if I want local file access I have to copy down all of my files form Google manually. In my case, I don’t have Google Drive installed on my Mac. What’s the use case? Well it’s a really easy way to create a backup of a Dropbox or Google Drive account. I think this new option in the Synology drive is really nice. It will even show the most recently modified files identified on all of the remote sync locations. The cloud sync applet running in Synology management interface also provides a nice visual indication of the process. The upload still took a little while but no longer than a typical Google Drive upload.

I added a 1.2GB file file to the Synology drive and the Google drive web application showed it as being uploaded within a few seconds. Once the syncing is set up, while changes appear to be recognized very quickly. The two options are either, delete the file from the remote sync location or to re-download to the Synology drive from the remote location. There’s a global setting to determine what should happen if files are deleted from the Synology drive. In my testing I was able to point the Synology drive at two different Google Drive accounts for Syncing without any issues. this means that you can log out of one Google account and log into another create additional sync in points. Authentication for the Google drive account takes place through the browser.

During the initial sync the Synology drive will download all Google documents to the local folder. There is a one click option to select Google drive, then subsequently point the application at a folder on the Synology backup drive. The options are Google Drive, Dropbox and Baidu Cloud. 1 DSM 5 provides a significant improvement to the UI of the management console but it also brings some new tricks the my all-around favorite piece of hardware, such as Cloud Sync for automatic syncing with Goolge Drive and Dropbox.Īfter installing the Clound Sync application from the Synology drive’s Package Center, create a new sync end-point.
